“This programme is:

  • Particularly useful for encouraging phonological awareness.
  • Carried out towards the end of the first term/beginning of the second term.
  • Used three times a week and each session lasts for about 15 minutes.
  • Used with small groups of six to eight children of mixed ability. This provides good role models for behaviour and listening.
  • Fully explained in the handbook, including any materials and resources needed for each session.
    The children:
  • Sit on the floor in a circle and are encouraged at all times to remember skills such as good listening and good sitting.
    During each session:
  • Adults speak slowly and use simple language. Information is repeated and regular pauses help the children assimilate the concepts they have heard.
There is a rhyme and puppets are used to demonstrate good sitting and listening. The same puppet is used throughout the series of sessions.”
