Making language and literacy acquisition FUN

Chosen by the Foundation Stage Forum as product of the month

SALLEY is a complete programme of activities that gives nursery and reception class children the skills they need for their future learning

  • Listening
  • Attention
  • Memory
  • Sequencing
  • Discrimination

These crucial concepts help prepare children to improve through the 100 days of activities in the SALLEY programme, their phonological awareness and their readiness to acquire literacy.

Rigorously tested, the research shows the fun 20 minutes a day programme, which encourages active learning, whole body movement and visual and auditory inputs, and which can be used by any early years practitioner, significantly improving children's reading ability and their general learning skills. It leads into or supports the DCFS's Letters and Sounds guidance and meets many of the objectives of the National Early Years Foundation Framework without making excessive demands on children or staff.

It can also be used as a diagnostic, intervention and a prevention tool for children in danger of failing to develop appropriate phonological awareness and literacy skills.

Five local authorities have adopted SALLEY for all or most of their early years settings.
